Restless Night

The 18 hour train ride to Guilin passed much faster than expected. Having friends with us who are just as crazy as us made time fly. We watched HoodWinked, played Yahtzee, talked, people watched (It's amazing the things you see on a Chinese train) The scenery was partially visible through a haze of mist and rain but still beautiful. Night time was the only difficult part because of our small neighbor in the next compartment. A two year old heathen child who screamed ALL NIGHT! Not just crying, it was that "I don't want to" scream. Not real tears, because he could stop on a dime with no sniffles or gasps of breath. Hours and hours of screaming almost pushed me to the edge. In the morning, when there was no hope of sleeping at all, he laid his evil head down and slept like a baby, a real baby. We all had to hold each other back from banging pots and pans and yelling over his innocent looking face! It's amazing how your personality changes with no sleep. I know I sound really bitter towards a baby...sorry. I ain't mad. From Guilin, we ran in the rain to a bus traveling to Yangshuo. Our fearless leader, Beau got us to the hotel without a map and finally, we had arrived.

  1. Been there done that. However, not on a train and the child was MINE. It is amazing how your personality changes when you don't sleep. Glad you got to hotel safe and could "catch up" on it. Have a great vacation. Sara
